Outreach at Baldwin Community United Methodist Church

There is Good News, so be cheerful friend.  Did you know the people in our church volunteer and are joyful and blessed to support terrific organizations that help others in our own community, around the country and in needy areas around the world?  Check these out:

  • Lord’s Pantry Food Distribution Program every month provides 50 – 60 local families fresh and packaged food to help them stretch their household budget. Donated food and clothing nourishes and good fellowship lifts spirits. More provisions are handed out at Thanksgiving and at Christmas, and our volunteers organize a Breakfast with Santa for the children.
  • The Nyadire Connection, a United Methodist Mission in northeastern Zimbabwe, Africa, is supported with donations and volunteers helping sustain the Mission, a hospital, primary and secondary schools, and an orphanage. Backpacks filled with school supplies are donated, mission teams travel to Zimbabwe, and now a special emphasis to support hearing impaired children, obtain and use Solar Ear Hearing Aids.
  • Daily Bread Feeding Program, located in Pittsburgh’s Northside, out of the kitchen of the former New Hope Methodist Church serves quality nutritious hot meals three times a week to those without a home or who are under-employed. Donations support and on a rotation with other area churches, our volunteers cook and provide fellowship.
  • Caring Connections, visiting elderly church members who are home bound or in nursing homes, providing them gift bags, fellowship support and good cheer. An informative discussion open to Community was organized on how to help loved ones with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Youth projects include creating “Fidget Blankets” for dementia patients living at the nearby Arden Court.
  • Jumonville Christian Summer Camperships and Retreats offer a beautiful mountaintop setting 50 miles south of Pittsburgh for adult retreats and donations subsidize church youth attending summer camp. These adventurous, joy filled Christian experiences have proven lifechanging.
  • Youth Mission Trips for two years, subsidized by donations have helped residents in Redbird, West Virginia and have stretch our youth and adult leaders beyond their comfortable zones, and see the needs of others, then help build or repair in the community, and share fellowship.
  • Baldwin/Whitehall Summer Feeding Program is being organized this year and our volunteers and donations will help this summer provide a weekday lunch for elementary school aged children.
  • Baldwin Community Preschool Tuition subsidies for families in need are funded by our donations.
  • Our Donations support Disaster Relief in our country and around the world through United Methodist Committee on Relief. UMCOR brings God’s hope, healing and renewal to people whose lives have been disrupted by disaster. For example last year humanitarian relief was sent into Beira, Mozambique after Cyclone Idai created an immense and ongoing tragedy in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.
  • Snack Boxes for College Students and our Military personnel, while they are away from home. This lets them know we support them, we want them to succeed and make sure they know we love them; are thinking of them and praying for them while they are away from our midst.
  • Angel Tree Ministry helped families from the Lord’s Pantry, Ward Home, Lydia’s Place, Eighth Avenue Place and Sojourner House provide a better Holiday for their children.
  • Volunteers send Valentine and Christmas cards to Veterans at the local VA Hospitals to make their days a little brighter.
  • Bread for the World urges our political leaders to support and fund food support programs around the world. Volunteers write letters and visit our representatives in DC urging support.
  • Our donations support organizations fighting addictions affecting people and their families in our area communities, and support assistance through faith-based solutions.
  • Our volunteers participate in a reading program with elementary school aged children in Brookline.

We have a wonderful group of Stewards in the Outreach Team.  We love the Lord and love serving the Lord through these ministries and projects.  Outreach meets the 1st Tuesday of every month except July and August in Asbury Hall.  Join us and be a part of the excitement of serving.
